You might notice that the tree is not there at all, as opposed to being a crape myrtle or a birch. The tree installed was a birch because the SDOT (Seattle Department of Transportation) was not able to find a crape myrtle in time for the order. In the winter of 2005/2006 the birch was killed by a number of cars running over it.
