The garden is a mixed bag so far.
Doing real well:
- garlic – Been in the ground for months. Thriving.
- potatoes – Some are huge, some are not that huge, but all seem successful.
- beets – Growing fairly fast, but not over 3 inches, probably. Good success rate.
- peas – 5 inches? Good success rate.
- tomatoes – Still in individual pots in the basement, but could be planted any time. Maybe this weekend.
- eggplant – Still in individual pots in the basement, but could be planted any time. Maybe this weekend.
apparently failing:
- cucumbers – Tried starting and transplanting. All have been eaten by slugs. Also direct-planted seeds when I transplanted, just in case, but those haven’t come up.
- onions – I don’t have more than 6 or 8, and they’re sooo tiny. Poor germination rate, possibly due to inappropriate soil conditions? Maybe try sets next time.
jury still out:
- beans – Directly seeded. Some have sprouted, some haven’t. Most sprouts have been mostly eaten by slugs, etc.
- peppers – Still tiny and under lights in the basement. Transplanted to individual pots for growth.
